Peut-être finalement que les chiffres, loin de permettre une approche uniquement scientifique, participent de l’épaisseur même du monde. A l’instar des lettres pour un roman, ils en constitueraient non seulement une grammaire secrète, l’ossature (le rêve d’une mathesis universalis), mais aussi la chair. Ils n’égraineraient pas tant le temps qu’ils ne le rempliraient. Et chaque couche de temps d’être une encoche à relever, une couche de sens à lire, un espace propre : plus de distinction entre l’acte de lecture, de décomptage et celui de contemplation d’un paysage.
C’est peut-être cette expérience que les sublimes oeuvres de l’exposition 2012 (empruntant le titre d’une oeuvre de Adriana Lara) font partager : quand les arcanes chiffrées et lettrées du monde en sont la forme immédiate comme l’horizon. Ainsi dans les films inédits de Guy de Cointet (Sans titre, fin des années 60, 8 mm transféré sur dvd), le marbre des sculptures de Trisha Donnelly (Untitled, 2011), les sérigraphies de Allen Ruppersberg (Le Mot juste, 1983) ou encore les tubes métaphysique et physiques de Adriana Lara (1 (one) from Numbers (Disambiguation), 2012).

Guy de Cointet, artiste français ayant vécu en Californie, laisse derrière lui une oeuvre riche et complexe qui relève aussi bien du dessin, de la performance, de l'installation que de la poésie sonore.
Ses oeuvres seront présentées notamment dans le prochain Nouveau Festival du Centre Pompidou, dans l’exposition consacrée à Raymond Roussel Locus Solus au Palais de Tokyo (2013). La Fondation Jumex (Mexico) lui consacre actuellement une vaste exposition rétrospective

Actuellement invitée à présenter son Artist's Choice au MoMA (novembre 2012 –avril 2013), lauréate du Prix Farber-castell 2012 (Neues Museum, Nuremberg), Elle participe à l’exposition « Les Dérives de l’imaginaire » au Palais de Tokyo (cur. Julien Fronsacq). En 2013, des expositions personnelles lui seornt dédiées à la Serpentine gallery (Londres) et au San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Elle a participé dernièrement à la documenta(13), à l’exposition « Ecstatic alphabets » au MoMA, New York. Des expositions personnelles lui ont été notamment consacrées aux Portikus, Frankfurt Am Main, au MAMbo, Bologne, et à l’Institute of Contemporary Art de Philadelphie.

Adriana LARA (née en 1978) vit et travaille à New York. Ses oeuvres ont été exposées à la dOCUMENTA (13), chez Algus Greenspon, New York, chez Gaga Fine Arts à Mexico, au Utah Museum of Fine Arts à Salt Lake City à la Kunsthalle de Bâle, au Palais de Tokyo, à la Galería Comercial Puerto Rico… Elle a fondé Perros Negros,projet curatorial avec Fernando Mesta et Agustina Ferreyra, et Lasser Moderna, projet musical, avec Emilio Acevedo.

The Art institute of Chicago présente actuellement et jusqu’au 6 janvier prochain la rétrospective No Time left to start Again/ The B and D of R'n' R. Des expositions monographiques ont été précédemment consacrées à Allen Ruppersberg au Santa Monica Museum of Art (2009) ainsi qu'au Camden Arts Center de Londres (2008). Il a également participé à : The Last Newspaper, New Museum, New York, 2010; Conjuring Houdini, The Jewish Museum, New York, 2010, ainsi que dans des expositions au Museum Of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, Pomona College Museum of Art, Claremont, ainsi qu'à l'Orange County Museum of Art, Newport Beach, dans le cadre de l’exposition-fleuve Pacific Standard Time : Art in L.A. 1945-1980, organisée par la Fondation Getty, 2011.

In the final analysis, maybe, numbers, far from facilitating a purely scientific approach, actually contribute to the depth of the world. Like the letters in a novel, they could be seen as constituting not only its secret grammar, its skeleton – the dream of a mathesis universalis – but also its flesh. Not so much marking out time as filling it. With each layer of time a notch to be noted, a stratum of meaning to be read, a space in its own right: gone the distinction between the acts of reading, counting and contemplating a landscape.
Maybe this is the experience that the sublime works in the 2012 exhibition – with its title borrowed from a work by Adriana Lara – share with us: when the ciphered and lettered arcana of the world are, like the horizon, its immediate form. As is the case in the hitherto unshown films of Guy de Cointet (Sans titre, late 1960s, 8 mm transferred onto dvd), the marble of Trisha Donnelly's sculptures (Untitled, 2011), Allen Ruppersberg's silkscreens (Le Mot juste, 1983) and Adriana Lara's metaphysical and physical tubes (1 [one] from Numbers [Disambiguation], 2012).

Guy de Cointet [1934-1983], a French artist who lived in California, leaves a rich and complex body of work dealing with drawing, performance, installation, as well as theater.
His works will be shown at the forthcoming Centre Pompidou’s « Nouveau Festival », during the exhibition dedicated to Raymond Roussel at Palais de Tokyo. The exhibition Tempo Rubato takes place currently at Jumex Foundation (Mexico).

Trisha Donnelly is currently invited at MoMA’s Artist’s choice (november 2012 – april 2013), winner of the first Farber-castell prize (Neues Museum, Nuremberg). In 2013, she’ll have solo shows at Serpentine gallery (London) and San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

Adriana LARA (1978) works and lives in New York. The Basel Kunsthalle just dedicated her a solo show. Her works have been on show at documenta(13), Algus Greenspon, Gaga Fine Arts in Mexico, the Utah Museum of Fine Arts in Salt Lake, the Palais de Tokyo, and the Galeria Comercial Puerto Rico… She founded Perros Negros,
a curatorial project with Fernando Mesta as well as Lasser Moderna, a musical project with Emilio Acevedo.

Ruppersberg’s complete cycle of No Time left to start Again/ The B and D of R'n' R is currently the subject of an exhibition at The Art institute of Chicago. He had also solo exhibitions at the Santa Monica Museum of Art (2009) and the Camden Arts Centre in London (2008). His work have been included in the past group shows: The Last
Newspaper, New Museum, New York, 2010; Conjuring Houdini, The Jewish Museum, New York ,2010; and in exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; Pomona College Museum of Art, Claremont; and Orange County Museum of Art, Newport Beach in conjunction with Pacific Standard Time: Art in L.A. 1945-1980 organized by the Getty, 2011.
