CHRONOLOGY

September 17, 1959 :
8 books deemed " pornographic " by a custom inspector are confiscated from Dorothy Iannone at Ildewild Airport in New York.

October 15, 1959:
She addresses a letter to the Secretary of Treasury and the Civil Liberties Union asking for the return of the books.

October 29, 1960:
Once again, 4 books from Dorothy are seized by the Customs Bureau at the Ildewild Airport. Henry Miller's Tropic of Cancer is one of them.

November 10, 1960:
Dorothy authorizes Melvin L. Wulf to proceed on her behalf as her attorney with respect to the case. He immediately contacts the Bureau of Customs in New York.

January 12, 1961:
The book The White Paper is returned to Dorothy by order of Irving Fishman, deputy collector at the Restricted Merchandise Division of the Bureau of Customs.

May 24, 1961:
Tropic of Cancer, Tropic of Capricorn and Plexus are returned to Dorothy by order of US Marshal Joseph Stockinger.

August 15, 1961:
The United States government agrees to allow all Henry Miller's books into the country. All actions against Dorothy's books are discontinued.
